Quickgloves: So whats it like joining a game like Dust 514 after dedicating yourself to its counterpart EVE for 5 years?
JarielManton: Well, as you know i have been playing EVE since 2007 and during that time i've been a pretty avid COD player so naturally when i heard CCP was developing an FPS i was very quick to jump on it. I can't wait to see how EVE and FPS integrate and the games true potential is released.
Quickgloves: COD really??? never pegged you for a large van with no windows driver, but still the differences in Dust 514 from COD are huge. If you were fan of COD why are you a fan of DUST514 primarly based on its connection to EVE an its an FPS or are there underlying reasons
JarielManton: BTW can a CCP employee text CCP Guard and tell him that Jariel Manton says Fins UP!
Quickgloves: yo apollo u got some brown stuff on your nose
JarielManton: Yea, they are very different games but still the underlying concept of any FPS is the same, shoot people in the face. But the link between an FPS and MMO gives the games sooo much more meaning individually. so its inevitable depth is your primary draw to this project of DUST 514
JarielManton: Well, yea that and i have every confidence that CCP will make this game what it has the potential to be. It might take 10 years but it will get there. EVE wasnt built in a day either.
Quickgloves: so your belief in what CCP has given you in 10 years is your what your faith holds truth in Dust 514 Well, if it takes 10 years to produce the final product what reason is there for consumers to play this game now knowing it will not be complete for another decade
JarielManton: People played EVE when it was in beta as well as when it was only a year old. I've got screenshots from my first year, you'd be amazed how far EVE has come in just a few years. I cant image what it looked like in 2003.
Quickgloves: so you evaded my question what reason is there for consumers to get involved now when the game has issues an they know it wont be fixed for years to come
JarielManton: Look, all games have issues, no game will ever be perfect and how you measure a game in terms of its playablity is different between every gamer. You can say that COD has better graphics, or smoother gameplay, most importantly no dropships :p BUT, the reason i play this game over a game with some of those other qualities is because of the idea, the vision, that ccp had when they started this game and for that reason i will always support this game.
Quickgloves: So regarless of latency issues, improper texture encoding an poor excution of events your still enthralled in the idea that DUST 514 can turn from frog to PRINCE
JarielManton: Absolutly CCP isn't a large studio by any means, compared to treyarch or DICE they also have less experience in the FPS world. To create a AAA game is going to take more time, more testing, and more dedication from its players and its developers. Patience is a virtue.
Quickgloves: Patience is not somthing that most FPS consumers have, considering player base ages majority run from 12-17 hence the low expectations of COD or other franchised shooter fans precieve as awsome, your stateing that DUST514 holds a special aura as a FPS. It will for sure appeal to much older crowds of gamers due to the fact lil kids will rage quit it after the first day an the truley pateient will reap the benfits of DUst 514 in my concern is that these dedicated few will be the victims of loving a cult FPS. My meaning is that i fear this game may not appeal to mass consumers limiting the work CCP can do to maintain it an in a few years fluttering just as Zipper ineractive did with CULT CLASSIC FPS MAG
Jariel Manton: I think you make a very good point, and highlited one of my favorite things about EVE and that is that New Eden is not an easy place to live. I often tell my friends who show interest in EVE that it takes a special type of person to play EVE and honestly i think that it's ok. I'm fine with that, If i wanted to play with anyone i would play COD. HTFU. Also Zipper didn't have an MMO to back them up. The connection to EVE will keep Dust afloat if it needs to. |
